SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENTS
- I developed and co-chaired the Women’s and Children’s Workforce Sub-group at Dr Gray’s Hospital on behalf of NHS Grampian. This multidisciplinary group discussed and assessed options for the reintroduction of the Maternity Unit at Dr Gray’s Hospital. The reintroduction of the maternity unit has now been approved by the Scottish Government.
- I co-chaired the Clinical Governance Group meetings at Dr Gray’s Hospital and ensured compliance and alignment with NHS Grampian’s clinical governance.
- I created and chaired Clinical Leads Group at Dr Gray’s Hospital to create: a forum to discuss matters of common interest around the hospital; an information-sharing hub between clinical leads and management; a forum to discuss and ratify SOPs for the hospital; two-way clinical governance monitoring and sharing of learning.
- I was instrumental in the creation of an HDU / Critical Care Group to define and improve “acuity / levels of care” at Dr Gray’s Hospital. Presentation made to NHSGrampian Board in September resulted in this being one of the first focus groups commissioned by the new “Transformation Board” on behalf of the NHSG Board.
- I have extensively reviewed the job plans for whole of Dr Gray’s Hospital, converted them to the new e-job-planning system and clearly delineated DCC, SPA, External and other work.
- I attended most of the CSG meetings for essentially every department at Dr Gray’s Hospital thereby ensuring maintenance of standards; building bridges between clinicians and management; cohesive Pan- Grampian working; Departmental Clinical Governance adherence and links with the Dr Gray’s Clinical Governance Group.
- I have been part of a national group introducing recycling in the operating theatre environment in Scotland
- I was awarded the Fellowship ad eundem (FRCA) of the Royal College of Anaesthetists on Tuesday 10 March 2015
- I have participated in the development of a Patient Feedback questionnaire with the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
- I have led the development and adoption of the use of social media, particularly Twitter, as an educational tool at anaesthetic conferences.
- I have been heavily involved with the promotion of Life Sciences in Elgin, and with the development of Digital Health. We are leading the world in the development of the discipline of Health Web Science.
- I have led the conception, initiation, promotion and development of a Pre-admission Assessment Unit at Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin. This involved massive interdisciplinary interaction throughout the hospital, with members of the Moray Community, General Practitioners, and with other hospitals across the North of Scotland.
- I was inspirational in introducing “Dual Anaesthetizing” at James Paget University Hospital in Norfolk, which improved the flow of cases through the Orthopaedic Theatres, and is still being used today.
- I developed the concept of a Society of Anaesthetists for Botswana, and led the writing of the Constitution for the Society. I was elected as the first President of the Botswana Society of Anaesthetists at its inauguration in 2001 and served until 2005.
- I was instrumental in attaining membership of the Botswana Society of Anaesthetists to the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA). I represented Botswana at the WFSA Congress in Paris, 2004, and sat on the General Assembly of the WFSA at that meeting.
- Whilst a Director on the Board of Gaborone Private Hospital in Botswana, I assisted the hospital through extremely difficult financial times, allowing it to enter a recovery from an eminently insolvent position.
- I developed the first regular Anaesthetic Educational program in Botswana by forming the Gaborone Anaesthetic Journal Club. This led to the first meeting between Government and Private Anaesthetists in Botswana, which rapidly developed into a lasting relationship.
- My contributions through Medfam and the Medical Committee at Gaborone Private Hospital have helped to shape the provision of Private Healthcare in Botswana
- I established links with General Practitioners in Botswana through my work on the Private Practitioners Group which led to the establishment of links with the Private Hospital, and greater collaboration between the various groups of doctors.
